sufmi dasco Ahmad (born 7 October 1967) is an Indonesian politician, academic, and businessman affiliated with the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra). He currently serves as a Deputy Speaker of the People’s Representative Council (DPR-RI) for the 2024–2029 legislative period.


Early Life and Education

Sufmi Dasco Ahmad was born in Bandung, West Java, to Ahmad Dakyan Suud (passed away in 2024). He has three siblings: Eko Harsa Prihatin Suud, Irwan Suwandi, and Syuastri Reda.

Dasco completed his elementary education in Palembang, junior high in Jakarta, and senior high school in Manado. After high school, he pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering at Pancasila University, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1993.

Later, Dasco expanded his academic pursuits into the field of law, obtaining:

  • A Bachelor of Law from Jakarta University (2005–2009),
  • A Master of Law from Jakarta Islamic University (2009–2012),
  • A Doctor of Law (Ph.D.) from Bandung Islamic University (2012–2015).

Personal Life

Dasco is married to Raden Euis Handayani. The couple has a daughter, born in 2009.


Political Career

Early Involvement with Gerindra

Dasco’s political career began through a close professional relationship with fellow politician Fadli Zon, with whom he was involved in business ventures. Their collaboration led him to become one of the founding members of the Gerindra Party.

In 2008, he was appointed Chair of the Central Executive Board (DPP) of the party. He later served as Deputy Chairman of Gerindra, reflecting his key role in the party’s organizational structure.

Legislative Role

In the 2014 general election, Dasco was elected as a member of the People’s Representative Council (DPR-RI) from Banten III, receiving 56,323 votes. During his first term (2014–2019), he served on Commission III, focusing on law, human rights, and national security. He also served as Vice Chair of the House Ethics Council (MKD).

Reelected in 2019 with 99,002 votes, Dasco was appointed as Deputy Speaker of the DPR-RI, where he coordinated areas related to economic and financial affairs. He retained this leadership role after being reelected again in 2024, securing 119,692 votes. In his current term, he oversees political and security affairs, including coordination of Commissions I, II, III, the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP), and the Legislation Body (Baleg).


Notable Views and Public Statements

In 2017, Dasco publicly criticized the Indonesian National Police for what he perceived as bias against Gerindra. He also expressed concern over the possible resurgence of communism in Indonesia, warning of its potential to reemerge and influence movements abroad.
